The accommodation is presented to an extremely high standard, decorated throughout in Farrow & Ball colours to retain the period look, with high quality finishes, such as craftsman made bespoke oak doors with Suffolk latches, limestone & reclaimed pine flooring. Furniture is an eclectic mix of antique & new carefully sourced over a period of 3 years, each piece with a story to tell behind its purchase. The cottage is all on one level and therefore suitable for those who have difficulty accessing stairs. Designed for either couples or families to enjoy a luxury break, there is a bathroom for each bedroom, so perfect also for two sets of couples to retain their privacy.
This is the hub of the home, south facing, at the front of the property, with two windows to let the sunlight flood in. A stunning original stone inglenook fireplace is the focal point of the room, found hidden during renovations beneath a 60’s tiled fireplace. A multi-fuel stove heats the water & provides the central heating for the cottage, unlimited supplies of logs are provided to keep you snug & warm. For rainy days & evenings in there is a T.V with DVD, books & games, also internet access. With the stove lit & loaded with logs it makes for a cosy evening to snuggle up with a good book!
A dining kitchen with the country feel, furnished with a stripped & painted table & painted mis-matched chairs, an old stripped pine linen press provides copious storage for pots & pans, bespoke kitchen units with painted oak doors complement the look with 21st century appliances of dishwasher, electric oven & hob, fridge & microwave. Previous guests have remarked that it is ‘the best equipped kitchen’ that they have ever stayed in. French doors open onto a sun trap patio offering outdoor dining with views to die for across to Chatton Park Hill.
There are two, one arranged as a kingsize double & one a twin bedded room. Linen is provided and is of a luxury type with high thread count cotton percale & Egyptian cotton sheets, duvets are good quality synthetic to cover those who have allergies to feathers. White fluffy towels are a must with large bath sheets & hand towels for adults, smaller bath size towels for children – we like to provide a dark towel for dirty hands & when using suntan lotion. Hair dryers are provided for both rooms. The King Size double bedroom is situated to the front, south facing & sunny during the day with views across the fields to Chatton. Furnished with a cast iron type bed frame & quality comfy mattress, bedside tables & an antique original pitch pine wardrobe. It is decorated with a country cottage theme in sunny yellows & florals with white bedding & warm woollen throw. An en-suite bathroom compliments this room with a sink, toilet & electric Mira shower in a cubicle. The twin bedded room is to the rear of the cottage with no less of a view out across the fields to the side of the cottage. A place to while away the time observing the sheep & lambs or sometimes cows with their calves. It is also a good vantage point to observe the bird life of the region. The room has twin 3″ beds, again with quality comfy mattresses, bedside table & an old antique pine wardrobe. It is decorated with a nautical theme with blues & whites & cuddly woollen throws. This room is adjacent to the house bathroom which has a bath with overhead electric Mira shower & is luxuriously tiled with travertine.
Gardens & Grounds
Surround the cottage, a gravelled drive to the side accommodates parking for 2 cars, to the front there is a gravelled walled area with a stone seat, a wonderful place to sit & gaze at the view. The garden is all new planting since the builders left & is constantly developing with a cottage garden feel around a central lawn, with a kitchen patio with outdoor furniture & barbecue area. A flagged yard to the rear contains the log store & a stone shed which contains the freezer, electric point, sink & washer, also storage room for bicycles & walking gear. Heating is from a multi-fuel stove in the lounge. Easy to light & maintain it heats the water & radiators to warm the house, it gives the most wonderful atmosphere to the cottage & quickly makes it warm & toasty. All logs are provided & are stored a few feet away from the back door, a log carrier is provided to replenish the house stock of logs by the fireplace. Full instructions are provided for those who have had no experience with this form of heating. For the summer months hot water is also provided by an immersion heater & there is a back up portable electric radiator.
